Well, I didnt see it in a theater so I guess it wasnt the same thing, but I must confess it dissapointed me because of the changes PJ did.
Faramir the evil? Elves fighting? Gollum the extreme overdid psycho? I dont know.

True, he did make some drastic changes, but I thought most of them made the story better.
But I didn't like the whole evil Faramir thing. That was just wrong.

Another thing was the Ents. The whole rage attack doesnt seem appropiate. The thing is that they took long enough to decide to attack because thats their nature, they take things with patiente (hence their long language etc). In the book after they discussed it then they did attack, in the movie they decided NOT to attack and suddenly, lets go baby.

I guess to appeal to more than just the fans of the book. Sadly in doing so he occasionally leaves the book behind.
